About Us

In the wild world of publishing books, it pays to have an ally. It’s extra special if that ally is your sibling.

Synthesis Press is owned and operated by brother and sister team, L.A. Morton-Yates and Grace E. Kelley. When L.A. Morton-Yates published his first novel, Bittersouls in 2022, the press officially began. A year later, when his sister Grace E. Kelley was ready to publish her debut poetry collection, she joined him at the imprint with her book as the Sparrow flies.

The word “Synthesis” means ‘the combining of often diverse conceptions into a coherent whole’ (Merriam-Webster). So perhaps it makes sense that here at Synthesis Press we combine our shared passion of words and worlds, and express them through a variety of genres. Poetry, Speculative Fiction, Romance, Science Fiction, Steampunk, Fantasy, Post-Apocalyptic; the genres we write are as multifaceted as we are. L.A. Morton-Yates is author by one day, lab technician by other day. Grace E. Kelley is poet by one day, farmer by other day, romantic novelist by night.

These parts of us are not separate, they are syncretic; a synthesis. They fuel our creativity and give our work the vivacity of the real and the important, even when in the context of fiction.

Starting our own imprint has been a means of preserving our creative freedom throughout the writing, editing, and publishing process. Though we are still learning the do’s and do-not’s of independent publishing; we are very excited to link arms together and to continue to grow together as authors and independent publishers.
